JAN YEO
INTERFAITH MINISTER

Rev. Jan Yeo

A Celebrant for Ceremonies in Essex

Would you like to have a wedding blessing, naming ceremony/baby blessing or renewal of vows ceremony in Essex? Do you need a celebrant? If so, perhaps I can be of help. I am an Interfaith Minister who has been trained to create and conduct all kinds of ceremonies.

A Ceremony Designed Especially for You

All my ceremonies are unique. I create each one from scratch, starting with a number of meetings where I get to know you, your likes and dislikes, your values and beliefs and the style of wording you prefer.

I’ll work with you to create what you want and incorporate your favourite poems, readings and music. I’ll e-mail you ideas and drafts of the final ceremony so that you can tell me what you like and what you want to change. What matters to me is that you end up with a ceremony that you and your guests find both meaningful and moving.

I’ve undertaken a two year training to become an Interfaith Minister. The second year was largely devoted to designing and conducting ceremonies, where we were able to practise our own and learn from ones others had created. I have the added advantage of having been a Trainer and Personnel Manager for many years so feel perfectly happy speaking in front of large groups of people.

Civil Ceremonies

This website is about religious and spiritual ceremonies but if you'd like to name your child or renew your vows in a civil ceremony please ask me for details as I offer those too.

Listen to me Speaking

I’ve recorded a number of my favourite poems and readings so you can hear me speaking. There are two here and three others on the appropriate pages.

What Does Interfaith Mean?

Because I have the title Interfaith Minister most people take this to mean that I only work with people of different faiths but this isn’t the case. Whilst I’m always very happy, for instance, to conduct a wedding blessing for a couple who are Jewish and Catholic or a Naming Ceremony for parents who are Hindu and Christian these aren’t the only people who come to me.

The word ‘inter’ means ‘between’ and so includes everyone who fall between faiths.

You could fall into any of these categories:

You may prefer not to use the word God in your ceremony. That’s not a problem. It’s what you feel comfortable with that’s important.

What is the Role of an Interfaith Minister?

Interfaith Ministers don’t have a pre-determined ministry. Some of us create ceremonies, some offer counselling; others are doctors, teachers or social workers. Many work in ways that don’t appear to be a ministry.

It isn’t what we do that we feel is important, but the way we do it.

Our intention is always to act from a place of love.
